A growing organization is seeking a seasoned tax leader to guide its tax function and oversee all compliance, reporting, and advisory responsibilities across multiple business lines. This role is integral to the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial operations and will serve as a strategic partner to senior leadership.
As the senior-most tax professional, you will direct all tax-related activities, including filing obligations, technical research, audit management, planning initiatives, and team leadership. You'll collaborate closely with internal partners, support key financial decisions, and ensure the organization meets all applicable requirements in the U.S. and Canada.
This position requires strong analytical capabilities, excellent communication skills, and a deep command of tax regulations. The role initially reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer.
What You'll Lead
- Oversee all tax compliance and reporting activities across federal, state, local, and international jurisdictions (U.S. and Canada)
- Develop and execute strategies to optimize the company's tax position while maintaining full compliance
- Manage outside advisors and external tax resources as needed
- Serve as the main point of contact for government agencies and lead the response to audits, inquiries, and notices
- Maintain thorough documentation related to filings, provisions, and other tax matters
- Provide leadership, guidance, and review of work performed by tax team members
- Support cross-functional efforts and special initiatives requiring tax expertise
- Monitor regulatory changes and evaluate their impact on the organization
- Advise internal stakeholders on the tax implications of transactions, financial decisions, and operational changes
- Partner with Accounting, Finance, Legal, and other departments to align tax considerations with broader business objectives
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Tax (required)
- At least 10 years of relevant tax experience
- Experience supporting tax requirements for complex, multi-entity environments
- Proven record of successfully navigating both federal and state audits
- Strong knowledge of U.S. and Canadian tax requirements, including partnership reporting
- Prior experience leading and developing a small professional team
- Exceptional organization, prioritization, and time-management skills
- Meticulous attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to remain self-directed and productive in a remote setting
